Ursula smirked at Ren through the bars of his cage, feeling a smug sort of power over the situation. Yeah, she was gonna let him out, but for the moment she was enjoying herself. She decided to needle him, just a little. "What was the problem? Should it have been dropped on the ground and rolled in dirt before you'd be able to eat it?"

Ren knew something was up. He ignored the sneer in her voice and replied calmly, "Why, you yourself should know that valuable items, especially food, should be handled with care. I mean, don't they do that to you princesses, too?" He grinned at her through the bars. "But I suppose underneath all that rich sauce, salt, sugar, and honey, you're probably as plain as a regular steamed bun. Though I'm not sure whether or not you've actually seen one..."

Oooh. Ursula's eyes widened, very slightly, and she honestly wasn't sure whether she was offended, or if Ren had suddenly gotten just a bit more attractive. Either way, it was annoying.

"Oh, is that what you think?" She curled her lip in an aggressive grin, and raised a hand with her fingers spread upwards; without so much as a twitch of her palm, a ball of blue flame sprang up like a torch above her fingertips. Her whole body shifted into a posture that was practically vibrating with the anticipation of a good fight, and she was hoping he wouldn't disappoint her there, either. "Guards -- let him out of the cage, so he can convince me to spare his life--"

"What are you doing?" said Raizo from the doorway.

...damn. Ursula lowered her hand, the flame going out; she cast one last glance at Ren with a disappointed and rather distinct pout that was immediately turned on her brother. "Nothing, I wasn't going to fight him."

Raizo's expression was halfheartedly incredulous as he nudged her aside and opened the cage, to the guards' chagrin. "Come on," he said to Ren, tossing him a red bean bun, still warm from the kitchens. After all, they were Raizo's personal favorite. "We should get going. Shi and Kiki are already up."

"Where have you been, anyway?" Ursula asked, sticking herself like glue to Raizo's other side, and noting the way he seemed surprised by the question.

"I was checking on Seze," he answered, as he discreetly observed Ren for any secret jail-related injuries. "I didn't get to see her last night, and I was afraid the stables were flooding. Now, come on -- it doesn't look like the rain's going to let up anytime soon, so now's as good a time as ever to make sure everyone gets home safely."

Ren stared at teh ball of blue flame Ursula had had in her palm. Of course, if she was going to fight him, he'd unleash whatever he's got. But his good friend Raizo stepped in at the last minute. He glanced at Raizo gratefully as he rubbed his wrists and turned to glare at the guards as he followed the twins. Luckily, the guards weren't as coldhearted as he thought to torture him as he was held there. He quickly rushed past the two and, not looking where he was, crashed into Shi.

"Oh, there you are!" Shi murmured. "You've got red welts all over your wrists," she observed. "Well, anyway, here's your Jie." And she shoved the platypus bear into Ren's chest. He stood up and muttered his thanks before scurrying back to his room.

"I've never seen blue flames before," he admitted to Jie once in his room. He held out his own palm and a burst of red and orange appeared.

Ren, Shi and Kiki were all given time to gather anything they'd brought with them that wasn't immediately on them, and then Raizo returned to escort them himself to the front gates again, the thunderous pounding of the rain on the rooftops sounding like drumbeats. The sight that greeted them when they emerged through the grand doors was rather impressive: there was a truly gigantic eel hound standing in the pouring rain, wearing a long saddle that was equipped with two thick baskets on either side of the creature's body. Each basket was large enough to hold two adult-sized passengers, and that was what they were there for. The eel hound turned its large head and fixed its gaze on the teenagers as they emerged from the palace, its tail swishing in the puddles and mud. It didn't seem to care that it was getting rained on.

Raizo smiled, and approached the beast without regard for the rain; Ursula remained steadfastly in the doorway where it was dry. The eel hound lowered its head to Raizo, who wrapped his arms around its long snout and stroked the smooth head. "Good girl, Seze," he murmured, and then turned back to the others, gesturing for them to come closer. He had to speak up to be heard above the downpour.

"You're going to get wet," he told them, "but Seze will have no trouble with all of us. We'll get you home as quickly as possible, I promise."

"Oh gods," Ren muttered as he sat in a basket, Jie attached to his back. "First being caught, now this. How many more events that will traumatize me?" he grumbled. He was aware that Shi would be getting into the other basket, probably to care for that strange girl, Kiki. whatever. More space for me! he thought. As he felt the rain hit his head, he decided that Jie would be better off shielded by his body, rather than the other way around. He brought the cub to his lap and bent over him as he sat there. Awfully cold today. I hope I'll be able to find some shelter... he thought to himself.

Shi sat in teh other basket, beckoning to Kiki. "Hurry, or you'll be soaked and tired," she said. She was a bit afraid of the eelhound, but calmed down when she saw Raizo 'hug' it. Her silken clothing were already soaked through and her hair, which was tied into a tight bun, felt heavy with the water.

Raizo was about to climb onto Seze's back, when he was halted by the hurried arrival of one of the palace messengers. The man didn't seem too eager to brave the rain, so instead he handed off a slip of paper in his hand to Ursula, who read it over quickly, and then lifted her eyes back to meet her brother's. She smirked, and waved the paper over her head, calling to him over the rain.

"Looks like we're getting special delivery advertisements, now," she shouted, thoroughly amused, and holding the piece of paper out flat and backwards so he could see the identification on the back -- the stamp of a local produce stand in the market. "Bring me back some peanuts, would you?"

Raizo stared at her, and then swung his way up onto Seze's back, settling himself into her saddle. He gathered the reins, and clicked his teeth, and Seze rose to her feet and set off at a trot, which still brought them out of the palace and to the edge of Caldera City in no time. And then they were heading down the volcano, keeping a slow pace so that Seze wouldn't lose her footing as all the precipitation runoff raced down towards the harbor.

Ren and Shi were jolted back and forth as the eelhound made her journey to wherever they were going. He cursed to himself every time he had to stop himself from toppling over Jie and hit his head on the other side of the basket. Someone tell me how I got tangled up in this... he thought to himself, recalling the moment he bumped into Raizo. It wasn't that he hated Raizo or his sister (she was actually pretty, though she resembled the prince), but it was the fact he was in this situation. Then he remembered that Raizo was sitting on a wet eelhound, more exposed to the rain then himself. He forced himself to be grateful.

Kiki came out of her room, with her bag on her back. She had a concerned look on her face as she started to follow the others. Kia was on her sholder, and flinched as kiki hopped in the basket with shi. She was going to try and find her sister.

Considering what was going through his mind, Raizo had reason not to mind the rain. By the time they entered Harbor City, he was soaked through his simple Fire Nation clothes. He wasn't wearing anything to mask his face this time, which was fortunate; in the downpour, it probably would have smothered him.

As they made their way from the edge of the city toward the more densely populated market district, Raizo dismounted from Seze's back, his boots splashing in the puddles and thick streams of water running through the streets. Seze lowered her head, and Raizo tugged the reins down in front of her, so that he could guide her with her passengers as carefully as possible to their destination. Fortunately, because of the rain the streets were nearly deserted, save for a few fiercely determined merchants who weren't about to let a little rain affect their profits, and were howling like sabre-tooth moose lions to the weary and wet sailors unfortunate enough to make port in this weather. Although distracted, Raizo kept his eyes out for the merchant stall that had sent their flyer to the palace; he suspected Ursula wasn't kidding about the peanuts, and he wanted to politely suggest to the owners that perhaps they shouldn't try that advertising trick again, since it was liable to get them into some trouble.

Kiki took the long jump down from the basket, to land in her sister's arms. Kiki started crying. "You are alive!" Kiki said in a quivery voice.
Toka squeesed kiki. "Where are you all going? Who are you?" she said, directing torward the people Kiki was riding with.

"I am Toka, as Kiki, my little sister, has been screaming." Kiki whispered something in Toka's ear. "And according to Kiki, our Killer mom and dad got murdered."
Toka had a big grin on her face.
"I will reward you all if you guys find us a place to stay."
Yoshi, the nine year old smart hawk then squaked.

"Oh great, another kid," Ren said under his breath. Jie squeaked sympathetically. Even if Ren couldn't see (and wouldn't be obliged to get out of the basket to see), he heard the conversation and knew it was another young girl. Kiki's sister.

Shi stood up in her basket and peered over the edge, glancing at Raizo when he spoke and eyed the tall-ish skinny girl down below, who seemed to be embracing Kiki.

"Well... that's what we're trying to do," Raizo answered, taking the weird situation in stride. The rain was starting to give him a chill; he wanted to get to some shelter soon, whether or not he managed to bring the girls back to Shi's household first. "Climb in; we should keep going. There's no reason to stand out in the rain."

"Kaori hurry up!" Hiro, her other brother, screamed at her from the opposite side of her bedroom door. She just sighed and slipped the extra paper, from when she wrote the letter, into a drawer and slipped on her shoes. The small patter of rain hitting the roof made her look out the window, she let out another sigh and put on her poncho.

It was a 30 minute walk from her home to the market stand where she worked, so her and Hiro were soaked before they arrived and Kaori was already in a crappy mood before she had to work another long day. "Come over here quickly!" another worker screamed for them. They both carefully ran over, making sure not to slip, and helped him pick up the crates he had dropped. Once they were placed in their correct spots, Kaori began to help put tarps up over the stand.

"Lets put up extra so we can stand somewhere dry," she told the others. They all nodded and began to put up extra tarp so they all could keep themselves from getting sick by standing in a dry area. Kaori looked over in time to see a large eel hound headed some-what in their direction. She gasped. She hadn't ever seen anything as big as this and wanted desperately just to pet it, being as into animals as she was. The sound of familiar voices she hadn't noticed before brought her gaze down a bit to see a few people standing down at it's feet and a couple in baskets. She wondered if those were the people she saw the night before in front of the hospital.

Ren decided it was time to hop off. The adventure was over--for him, at least. He nimbly leaped over the edge of the basket and landed a bit wkwardly, since Jie was in one arm. The rain, now that he was exposed, seemed to shower onto him. Jie's head was wet now, and Ren was shivering uncontrollably. He hurried over to get under the basket that had, until recently, held him. Hugging the wet platypus bear cub, he wondered what would happen to him now. He had never been out in a downpour like this one.

Shi tried to make room for the new girl by bringing her knees up to her chest and hugging them tightly. She noticed that this girl seemed... almost joyful at her parents' death and was immediately disgusted. But the mother-instinct kicked in, and though she couldn't shake off the girl's glee at something horrendous, she accepted her all the same.

"Hi, I'm Shi," she said, smiling and extending a hand. She wondered why she dropped a piece of bread into the basket.

Toka smiled and shook Shi's hand. Yoshi was flapping his wings, getting a mist in Kiki and Toka's face. A weird peeping sound started from nowhere, but it then got noticed to be coming from Toka's basket. Kiki peeked in the basket and giggled.

Bewildered, Raizo watched as Toka climbed up and Ren hopped down, instantly exposing himself to the elements that only seconds later decided to turn nasty. Just as he was starting to guide Seze down the street again, something small and sharp bounced off the top of his head. And then again off his cheek. And then one came a hair's breadth away from taking out his eye. As he frantically rubbed his stinging face, Raizo saw hailstones each the size of a pea starting to pelt down into the mud and rivulets of the street, bouncing off of merchant tents, rattling down the rooftops. Apparently, the gods were laughing at him.

Seze hissed angrily as the hail began to bombard her exposed hide, and with the girls still in the baskets, Raizo knew he had to act quickly; with his luck, the hail would end up becoming the size of copper pieces at the very least. Looking around for shelter, he noticed one of the vendors setting up a tarp extension -- it might not be big enough to hold Seze, but he had to try -- so he quickly tugged the eel hound over towards the tent. Seze, wanting just as badly to get out of the hailstorm as anyone, lowered herself down to her belly and slithered underneath the tarp, curling her tail in around her so that no part of her body would be vulnerable to the assault from the sky. The ground was already a swirl of mud, but that didn't make a lick of difference to her.

Ducking under the tent as well, it took a minute to occur to Raizo that he had just completely monopolized an entire tent belonging to this vendor. Oh, well... he'd buy a bushel of something to make up for it. Leaning back against the side of Seze's body, Raizo exhaled heavily, and wished that his firebending was better. He could just imagine his sister at home right now, melting hailstones right out of the sky with jets of flame, just for the hell of it. He'd be lucky if he could melt just one before it concussed him.

"Ow, ow!" yelled Ren. He couldn't get into the tarp extension, since the whole eel hound was crouching under it. He ground his teeth and with one hand, did as Raizo thought his sister would do: with a hand full of red hot fire, he melted all the hail five inches away from the top of his head, though a few drops of warm water trickled down his cheek occasionally. He looked around for somewhere to hide.

Shi smiled warmly at Toka, and tried to perr into the basket, when it suddenly lurched forward. She had to give everything she had grown up with to stop herself from hurling into the sisters.

For a long moment, Raizo just stared.

When he finally managed to make his body move, he darted out with an arm thrown above his head, grabbed Ren by the arm, and hauled him back under the tarp into the circle provided by the coil of Seze's body. However, he could not bring himself to stop staring at the other boy. "...I didn't know you were a Firebender."

They has just finished securing the tarps when a that large eel hound hurled herself under them, making all the other workers run. Kaori just stood there at his nose, looking at her. She smiled and lifted her hand for her to smell it. Her obsession with animals led her to know that animals like to sniff before the person puts a hand on them, so that they know they aren't dangerous. Akio had just missed the hail storm earlier and was now sitting on top of some food crates staring at the hound and the people who just made their own way under the tarps. He sneezed and stretched his swings.

Kaori hardly noticed the people who had come in with the eel hound because of her fascination with it, and when she heard someone mention firebending, she knew it couldn't be the other workers, so she looked over and saw them. Immediately, she concealed herself in front of the large animal and she peaked at them. Her face got hot and she started to feel guilty. I shouldn't have sent that letter...

"Who are you and why do you think that you have the right to take our space with your giant pet?" Hiro barked up and stared at them, a bit frightened, but mostly agitated. He walked a bit closer to them, but stopped only a couple steps from where he was when the eel hound growled. Kaori looked at him, scared that this 'pet' would devour him.
